COLOMBO, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka will sign a tourism promotion agreement with Russia during the visit of its President Maithripala Sirisena to that country later this month, a minister here said on Friday.

Tourism Promotion and Christian Religious Affairs Minister John Amaratunga told Xinhua that there was a great potential to attract tourists from Russia to Sri Lanka. He said he would be a member of the presidential entourage to that country.

Tourism is one of the key growth areas in Sri Lanka. He said China and India account for the most number of tourist arrivals to the country.

"In the proposed agreement, we will cover all aspects for the development of travel and tourism between the two countries," he said.

The tourist arrivals from Russia stood at 70,000 last year. However, Amaratunga said the country stood the potential to attract more.
