NEW DELHI, March 15 (Xinhua) -- An Irish woman was found dead in the western Indian state of Goa, police said Wednesday, adding that one person has been arrested in connection with the "murder".
The body of the 28-year-old woman, identified as Danielle McLaughlin, was found Tuesday by the police in an isolated spot close to tourist resorts in Canacona of Goa.
"The body bore injury marks on the face and head. We are treating the death of the Irish woman as murder. One person has been arrested in connection with the incident. We are interrogating him along with 15 others," a senior police official said.
The woman had dual Irish and British citizenship, but she travelled to India using a British passport.
The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs has said as the woman was using a British passport, the local British consulate were handling the matter. "The Irish Embassy is liaising closely with the British authorities and an Irish consular official is travelling to Goa," a spokesperson told media.
The coastal state of Goa is popular among foreign tourists.
