Tokyo stocks gain in morning on hopes for Fed rate hike after solid payrolls data

TOKYO, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks gained Thursday morning as the yen's retreat versus the U.S. dollar lifted the market mood, while expectations the U.S. Federal Reserve may hike its rates soon following solid payrolls data buoyed the broader market here.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 29.07 points, or 0.15 percent, from Wednesday to 19,283.10.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 2.20 points, or 0.14 percent, to 1,552.45.

Notable issues that advanced into positive territory included rubber product, nonferrous metal and marine transportation issues.
