Bangladeshi national flag-carrier operates all-women flight

DHAKA, March 8 (Xinhua) -- National flag-carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines has operated a special flight by all women to mark the International Women's Day on which falls on March 8.

The national flag carrier said the initiative is aimed at encouraging more women in aviation sector as well as inspiring them to move forward in every spheres of life.

Biman spokesperson Shakil Meraj told Xinhua that all-women special flight was operated on Dhaka-Sylhet (some 241 km northeast of capital Dhaka) round route Wednesday with a Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

He said Captain Tania Reza and First Officer Antara led the BG-0603 flight with six female cabin crew.

Apart from this, the female security personnel and ground handling staff were deployed for the flight that left Dhaka at about 1:50 p.m. local time from the domestic terminal.

The Boeing 737-800 aircraft which with 80 passengers left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka returned to the same airport safely with 160 passengers on board from Sylhet at about 4:00 p.m. local time.

Biman has reportedly now 140 pilots of which nine are female.

Apart from them, female employees are working with efficiency in ground service, engineering section and other departments of Biman.
