PHNOM PENH, March 7 (Xinhua) -- The Cambodia Brewery Limited (CBL), a subsidiary of Heineken's Asia-Pacific brand, on Tuesday inaugurated its new 100-million-U.S.-dollar production facility in southeastern Phnom Penh to tap into the growing demand for beers in the kingdom.

With the new facility, the CBL would be able to increase its production capacity to 300 million liters per annum from the current 80 million liters, Frans Eusman, president of Heineken's Asia Pacific brand, said at the inauguration ceremony.

"The decision to invest in the new production facility was made after the company observed that Cambodia enjoys political stability and robust economic growth, and the demand for beers is on the rise," he said.

Speaking at the ceremony, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the CBL expansion project reflected the growing demand for beers in Cambodia and would reduce the kingdom's dependency on beers imported from other countries.

"The company pays the taxes of more than 100 million U.S. dollars per year, which partly contributes to increasing the government's tax revenue," he said.

Founded in 1996, the CBL has produced a variety of beer products such as Heineken, Tiger, ABC Extra Stout, Anchor, and Gold Crown Stout for domestic market.
