SYDNEY, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Australia's Foreign Minister Julie Bishop headed to Papua New Guinea (PNG) on Tuesday, to attend a forum with PNG government officials in Madang.

Bishop will be joined by senior Australian government ministers, including Immigration Minister Peter Dutton, and will co-chair the forum with her PNG counterpart.

The forum is expected to cover a swathe of issues, with the inclusion of Dutton in the delegation a likely indicator that the Manus Island detention facility, along with its refugee population, will be a key issue on the agenda.

Trade is also likely to feature at the forum, with Bishop pegging Australian investment into the island nation as being worth nearly 18.4 billion Australian dollars (13.99 billion U.S. dollars), with the foreign minister set also to chair the Australia-Papua New Guinea Business Dialogue.

A government official said Bishop is currently in transit to PNG, and will open a new Australian Consulate-General facility in PNG's second largest city, Lae, during the three day trip.
