BRUSSELS, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Women account for 35 percent of managerial positions in the European Union, according to findings published on Monday by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union (EU).

On the occasion of International Women's Day, these figures for female managers in the year 2014 were out of the nearly 7.3 million managerial positions in enterprises with 10 employees or more.

Latvia had the largest share of women holding managerial positions at 53 percent, followed by Bulgaria and Poland at 44 percent each.

In contrast, women accounted for less than a quarter of managers in Germany, Italy and Cyprus where the figure stood at 22 percent.

In every EU member states, male managers earned more than their female counterparts. The narrowest gender pay gap in managerial positions was recorded in Romania at 5 percent, while the largest gap was recorded in Hungary at 33.7 percent.
