Tokyo stocks drop from the bell as yen's firm tone sends exporters lower

TOKYO, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks dropped from the morning bell on Monday, as a comparatively firm yen against the U.S. dollar negatively hit exporter issues, which tend to rely on a weak yen to see overseas profits augmented when repatriated.

As market opened here, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 86.19 points, or 0.44 percent, from Friday to 19,382.98.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 4.41 points, or 0.28 percent, to 1,553.64.

Notable issues that declined in the the first 15 minutes of play comprised insurance, bank and precision instrument-linked stocks.
