China Education Fair sees overwhelming participation of students in Nepal

KATHMANDU, March 3 (Xinhua) -- China Education Fair, the first of its kind in Nepal, kicked off in the capital city on Friday with the overwhelming participation of students and educators.

Hundreds of Nepali students attended the fair to gather information about the Chinese education system and scholarship prospect for higher studies.

The two-day fair has been organized by Free Educational Consultancies Organization of Nepal(FECON) to introduce Nepali students with the progress China has made in the education sector and help them to apply in the Chinese academic institutions.

Yubaraj Katuwal, President of FECON told Xinhua, "We have organized this event for the first time in Nepal. Our major objective is to bring Chinese universities which are highly ranked and are offering scholarships and different types of schemes for international students."

Through the exhibition, the organizers have brought together Chinese education institutions and Nepali students from the diverse academic backgrounds. The exhibition is being held at a time when Chinese government has set a target of having half million foreign students by 2020.

Twelve renowned universities of China with engineering, business, management and medicine programs are taking part in the exhibition. The participating universities have offered diverse courses, spot admission assessment and substantial scholarships for Nepali students in diverse faculties.

Some of the participating universities are Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Hohai University, South East University, University of Science and Technology of China, Guangdong University of Technology among others.

Judy Shen, Program Manager at University of Science and Technology of China told Xinhua, "Our university is one of the top universities among Chinese universities and world widely stands at Top 200. We offer advanced Science programs along with Management and Humanities. We offer various scholarship programs so we thought we can attract more Nepali students to study."

It is estimated that around 3,000 Nepali students are currently studying in China. With the growing worldwide reputation of Chinese universities and courses, Nepali students have kept neighboring China in their priority list for further studies.

"The universities are offering really good scholarship programs. Since these universities are worldwide popular, I think I need to apply soon", a Phd Candidate Laxman Aryal shared with Xinhua.
