OBRENOVAC, Serbia, March 1 (Xinhua) -- China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) started construction works on a segment of Serbia's E-763 highway on Wednesday.

The Surcin-Obrenovac segment is 17.6 km long. The opening ceremony was held at a construction site near Obrenovac, which was attended by both officials and local citizens.

"I promise that we will invest all technical and management capacities of our company in order to finish this project as fast as possible, adhering to all standards," said Lu Shan, overseas executive general director of the CCCC.

Lu reminded that the commercial contract for the construction was signed on June 18, 2016 during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Serbia.

Once finished, the Surcin-Obrenovac segment will connect Belgrade's E-75 highway and the newly-built E-763 highway, enabling transport from Belgrade to Obrenovac and further towards Montenegrin border.

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Manchang also were present at the ceremony.

Chinese ambassador thanked Serbian people for their firm support to the Serbian government to further develop ties with China and expressed hope that Chinese companies will be appointed to construct the remaining part of the new highway.

Vucic replied to ambassador Li that the highway project is of vital importance to Serbia and suggested that the two countries could complete it together if Chinese side offers even more favorable terms for cooperation.

According to the Chinese company, the construction of the highway segment will be completed in 36 months.
