JAKARTA, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government has set a target of using more renewable energy in an effort to diversify energy sources amid dwindling fossil fuel output.
Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan on Tuesday vowed to achieve 20 percent usage of renewable energy in the next eight years.
"We will strive to meet the target of 20 percent (by 2025)," Jonan said at the ministry, noting that high cost is among the major challenges to meet the target.
Indonesia has started using bio-fuel made from crude palm oil and corn. The country is the world's largest producer and exporter of crude palm oil.
Aging wells and subdued fresh investment has dwindled Indonesia's oil production.
