WINDHOEK, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's president Hage Geingob has described Husab Uranium mine's first production of ore concentrate as a special achievement.
Swakop Uranium owns the Husab mine, one of the biggest uranium mine in the world, that is about 60 kilometers from the coastal town of Swakopmund.
Geingob said this when he responded to a letter from Swakop Uranium's CEO Zheng Keping that informed him about the mine's first production.
Husab mine produced its first uranium drum on Dec. 30, 2016 and Zheng wrote to Geingob informing about it on Jan. 2, 2017.
In his response in a letter dated Feb. 7, Geingob said he was pleased to note this special achievement and that he believed it would be the first of many to come for the Husab mine and Swakop Uranium.
Swakop Uranium got the letter on Thursday morning.
"The Husab mine if one of the outstanding investments to have taken place in our mining sector and within our economy as a whole."
"I have had the privilege to visit the mine on several occasions and each time the management, operations and conditions at the mine left me with a very positive impression," Geingob wrote.
Geingob said he would like to wish Swakop Uranium continued success in Namibia and that the operations should continue to reflect the mutual respect and win-win relationship between China and Namibia. Enditem
