SKOPJE, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Rail transport in Macedonia has been suspended due to a strike launched by railway workers, representatives of Macedonian Railways Transport informed Tuesday.

The railway workers told local media they were protesting to demand the full payment of their January salaries.

Macedonian Railways Transport said in a press release that it would find a way to pay out the first half of the January salaries by the end of February with the second half expected to be paid by March 10.

The railway company also denied claims that several salaries were pending, saying that only January payments hadn't been made yet.

Macedonian Railways Transport called on the strikers not to fall under any political influence, adding it was working with the government to find a solution.

Meanwhile, officials at Skopje Railway Station declared that passenger and freight transportation has not been running for several days.

Railway employees said they would continue protest until they were paid. Enditem
