LUSAKA, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Zambia has recorded a steady improvement in its electricity generation following good rains, a senior official said Tuesday.
Minister of Energy David Mabumba said power generation had improved in recent months due to increased water levels in key reservoirs following good rains experienced in the country.
He told reporters during a press briefing that current power generation stands at 1,573 megawatts against peak demands of 1,900 megawatts.
According to him, the Kafue Gorge Power Station, one of the country's biggest power plants, has improved electricity generation from 630 to 820 megawatts, while the Kariba North Bank Power Station's 380-megawatt production was also expected to improve as water levels in the Kariba Dam were rising rapidly.
Zambia has been experiencing electricity rationing since June 2015 after a scorching drought hit southern Africa's hydropower generation. Enditem
