TOKYO, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks eked out gains on Monday as the yen's depreciation after its persistent strength throughout the day against the U.S. dollar helped trim losses.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 16.46 points, or 0.09 percent, from Friday at 19,251.08.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, closed 2.47 points, or 0.16 percent, higher at 1,547.01.
Gainers were led by information and communication, rubber product and air transportation issues.
The day's turnover on the first trading day of the week was 1,712 billion yen (15.14 billion U.S. dollars).
