5 former Vietnamese oil, gas officials prosecuted against corruption

HANOI, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Police investigating agency has announced to expand criminal investigation of a case at the state-run PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVC) against charges of "deliberately acting against the state's regulations on economic management causing serious consequences" and "embezzlement of assets."

Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) said on its website on Friday, the ministry decided to prosecute five defendants, among whom, four were taken under custody and one was banned from leaving the place of residence.

The five people include Luong Van Hoa, born in 1980, former director of the PVC's Vung Ang-Quang Trach Project Steering Committee, Le Xuan Khanh, born in 1976, Head of Economic Synthesis under the committee, Nguyen Ly Hai, born in 1964, former chief technician of the committee, Nguyen Thanh Quynh, born in 1973, director of technical and technology department under Mien Trung Corporation, and Le Thi Anh Hoa, born in 1979, director of MTV Quynh Hoa joint stock company.

All those defendants are prosecuted against charge of "embezzlement of assets."

Earlier last September, the MPS issued an international wanted notice for Trinh Xuan Thanh, former PVC leader and former official of southern Hau Giang province for his irresponsibility and negligence in the leadership and management of PVC's operation.

Trinh Xuan Thanh was also accused of violating legal regulations on business administration, resulting in many wrongdoings and losses of nearly 3.3 trillion Vietnamese dong (142 million U.S. dollars), the state-run Vietnam News Agency reported.
