SYDNEY, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Police in the Australian State of Queensland have released an online platform on Thursday which allows members of the public to anonymously report criminals dealing in the drug ice (also known as meth amphetamine).
The tool is part of a 20 million Australian dollar (15.2 million U.S) plan by the state government to tackle organized crime, with a particular focus on the drug ice.
"We know drugs are the fuel that keeps organized crime going," Queensland Police Minister Mark Ryan said.
"It is essential we target the source in order to get the most effective results."
According to the Nation Drug and Alcohol Research Centre, Ice use has tripled in the last five years in Australia with an estimated 270,000 users.
Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbot has described the drug as "national scourge." In Queensland, it's estimated the rate of use has increased by five times.
"Information provided in the form will be used by police to drive operational responses and target their resources, homing in on those selling these horrendous drugs to our young people." Queensland Police Superintendent David Tucker said in a statement.
