SKOPJE, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Macedonia's industrial production volume index registered an annual growth of 3.5 percent in 2016 in comparison with previous year, the Macedonian State Statistical Office said Monday.
Industrial production increased by 2.1 percent in manufacturing and 13.6 percent in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply.
The improved performance in manufacturing was mainly driven by increased production in such divisions as manufacture of beverages, tobacco products, wearing apparel, basic pharmaceutical products and preparations, other non-metallic mineral products, machinery and equipment and motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers.
However, data showed production volume registered a decline of 1.3 percent in the mining and quarrying sectors.
Besides, industrial production by main industrial groupings in December 2016 was higher in energy by 8.0 percent, capital goods by 2.4 percent, durable consumer goods by 18.9 percent and non-durable consumer goods by 5.9 percent, but lower in intermediate goods.
