HELSINKI, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Several fur production farms in Northwestern Finland have been hit by organized theft, Finnish media reported on Thursday.

Criminal inspector Anders Afors of the Ostrobothnia Police told national broadcaster Yle that the thieves were likely to be part of international organized criminality.

"Typically the burglars first gathered intelligence before the actual entry," he said.

Police believed the furs will be taken out of Finland for international markets.

There are some 1,000 fur farms in Finland, nearly all in the western region of Ostrobothnia.

Furs production has been protested by some anti-fur and animal rights groups. Enditem
