MANILA, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- At least 27 people were injured in an explosion that rocked a town plaza in the central Philippines Wednesday night, news reports said.
Quoting police and a local official, the initial reports said a still undetermined explosive went off in a crowded park around 9 p.m. Wednesday while a boxing match was underway in Hilongos town, Leyte province.
The reports also quoted Leyte Gov. Dominico Petilla as saying that at least 27 were injured. Petilla's office is still confirming reports that some victims also died in the blast, the reports said.
The Inquirer.net posted a number of pictures of bloodied bomb victims being treated at a local hospital in Hilongos town.
Police have yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack.
