BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Dec. 22Xinhua) -- Brunei's Consumer Price Index (CPI) in November increased by 0.2 percent over October 2016, owing to higher prices of furnishings and home appliances, according to the latest statistics released by Brunei's Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE) Thursday.
In its monthly CPI report, JPKE said that the furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance increased by 1.9 percent, followed by clothing and footwear (2.1 percent) and food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.1 percent).
Indexes that experience decreases are Transport (0.3 percent), Recreation and Culture (0.3 percent) and Communication (0.1 percent). These were due to lower prices of passenger transport by air, holiday packages, stationery and drawing materials and telephone and telefax equipment.
JPKE said compared to November 2015, the CPI for November 2016 declined by 0.8 percent. Meanwhile, for the period from January 2016 to November 2016, the CPI has slipped on average by 0.7 percent.
CPI is a measure of price changes of goods and services paid by the consumer in a specified period. Brunei's list of goods and services in the CPI is based on the average expenditure per household. Enditem
