PRAGUE, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Czech police have detained nine people who were suspected of drug trafficking in Prague, head of the Prague drug unit Jaromir Badin said on Thursday.

He said the police seized 15 kilograms of cocaine and heroin, worth an estimated 30 million crowns (1.2 million U.S. dollars) on the black market, during a house search.

Police also seized four luxury cars and about one million crowns in cash.

Badin said the main perpetrators could face 8 to 12 years in prison for sales and smuggling of drugs, the punishment for other members will be less.

He said the police monitered the group of suspects for several months. The investigation of the case was quite difficult because the suspects used 51 phone numbers within half a year.

The police had to wiretap all of the numbers and then assess whether they contain evidence or not, said Badin.

The nine persons are seven men and two women. four of them have been taken into custody.

Badin said the drugs were probably brought from south-eastern Europe to the Czech Republic, since some of the suspects also come from there. Enditem
