SINGAPORE, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will visit Putrajaya, Malaysia on Tuesday for the 7th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders' Retreat with his Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak, said the Prime Minister's Office in a statement on Monday.

The statement said PM Lee will witness the signing of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail bilateral agreement by Singapore's Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan and Malaysian Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan.

The signing of the agreement is a culmination of intensive bilateral discussions since the 2013 Leaders' Retreat, and furthers the progress made by both sides since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in July.

The statement added the signing of the agreement also demonstrates the two governments' commitment to the project, which will boost connectivity, strengthen economic ties and enhance people-to-people linkages when completed.

The annual Leaders' Retreat is a key bilateral platform for both prime ministers to foster closer bilateral relations.

Local media reported that construction of the 350-km High Speed Rail is expected to start in 2018, with trains running by 2026. The line can cut the traveling time between the Malaysian capital and the city state to 90 minutes.
