ATHENS, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Greek notaries nationwide on Wednesday continued a rolling 24-hour strike action called by their unions boycotting foreclosures of primary residences at courts.

The strike action, which had been taking place each Wednesday over the past two months, was initiated when the auctions of primary residences of indebted households caused public uproar.

Notaries said that they intend to continue their mobilization until the government ensures smooth proceedings, after court employees and notaries were verbally assaulted in several cases by angry citizens inside and outside courtrooms.

The government has pledged to protect primary homes under certain criteria regarding debts to banks and the state.

Before the strike action started, there had been reported cases of poor families with jobless and sick members who faced repossession of their homes due to debts amounting to as little as 1,000 euros (1,060 U.S. dollars).
