LISBON, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Portugal and Spain should work to build the European project through a reformist agenda, Lisbon Mayor Fernando Medina said Tuesday during the second day of the visit of Spain's King and Queen.
The King and Queen of Spain arrived in Lisbon on Tuesday where they attended a ceremony at Town Hall in their honor.
King Filipe VI and Queen Letizia began their three-day official visit to Portugal on Monday in Porto, where they were welcomed by Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
During the ceremony in Lisbon, Medina said,"We can and should walk together in reconstructing the European project through a reformist agenda that responds to the consequences of the financial crisis, the inequalities caused by the single currency and the concern for civilization of saving refugees," Medina said.
He added that both countries had a crucial role in the debate between tolerance and exclusion.
King Filipe VI said earlier on Tuesday during a speech at Porto's Stock Exchange Palace that both countries should work harder to enhance bilateral business relations to help the Iberian economy. Enditem
