Vietnam's industrial production index rises 7.3 pct in 11 months

HANOI, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's industrial production index (IPI) is estimated to grwo 7.2 percent in November and 7.3 percent in the first 11 months of 2016, the General Statistics Office (GSO) said on Tuesday.

The increases in the processing and manufacturing sector, electricity production and distribution and water supply, wastewater and garbage treatment helped offset a decline in the mining sector, according to the GSO.

Provinces and cities with high IPI growth include central Quang Nam (30.6 percent), northern Thai Nguyen (24.5 percent), northern Hai Phong (16.7 percent) and central Da Nang (13 percent) provinces.

As of Nov. 1, the inventory index of the processing and manufacturing sector gained 8.8 percent from the previous year while textiles and garment, chemical production and chemical products, electricity equipment production saw the inventory index down.

According to the GSO, by Nov. 1, the number of laborers working in the industrial sector grew 4.3 percent year-on-year.

At the same time, the state sector has seen a decline of 2.6 percent in the number of workers while the figure of the non-state sector rose by 1.7 percent. The number of workers in foreign-invested sector climbed by 7.4 percent.
