DHAKA, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Wildlife Crime Control Unit of Bangladesh's Forest Department has rescued 1,451 birds of different rare and endangered species and detained three people suspected of being involved in smuggling of wild birds in the South Asia region.

The Forest Department officials in collaboration with anti-crime elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rescued birds in the country's Feni district, some 149 km southeast of capital Dhaka early on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, Shafayat Jamil Fahim told Journalists at a press conference Thursday that they raided several spots in the district and rescued 1,451 birds including endangered parrots, starlings and Red Breasted Parakeets.

He said the smugglers collected these wild birds from Bangladesh's southeastern Chittagong Hill Tracts and other areas to sell them at a high price.

The birds were emancipated following the press briefing.
