TOKYO, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares opened higher Thursday, with the Nikkei index hitting a roughly 10-and-a-half-month high on the strong U.S. stocks overnight.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 193.83 points, or 1.07 percent, from Tuesday to 18,356.77. Tokyo markets were closed on Wednesday for a national holiday.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 13.64 points, or 0.94 percent, to 1,461.14.
Gainers were led by transportation equipment, iron and steel and mining issues.
