TOKYO, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares opened lower Thursday as the U.S. stocks retreated for the first time in eight trading days.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 72.17 points, or 0.40 percent, from Wednesday to 17,790.04.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 6.65 points, or 0.47 percent, at 1,415.00.
Decliners were led by insurance, bank and securities issues.
