BRUSSELS, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- NATO defense officials on Thursday took stock of efforts in the armaments field at a meeting, the security organization said in a press release.
Opening the Conference of National Armaments Directors (CNAD) at NATO headquarters, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the CNAD plays a critical role in ensuring that the alliance is equipped with the required capabilities.
Stoltenberg stated that for half a century, the CNAD has been bringing allies together to facilitate multinational cooperation in capability development and delivery to ensure that the alliance has state-of-the-art capabilities readily.
During the meeting, NATO defense officials were briefed on the status of the major programs governed by the CNAD, including ballistic missile defense, surveillance and control, and joint intelligence.
The CNAD is the senior NATO committee responsible for promoting the cooperation between countries in the armaments field. It reports directly to NATO's political decision-making body, the North Atlantic Council.
