PARIS, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- World No. 10 Marin Cilic booked a berth to the ATP World Tour Finals after beating Belgium's David Goffin here on Thursday to reach the Paris Masters quarterfinals.

The Croatian, who will lead his nation's David Cup team against Argentina in the final in Zagreb at the end of this month, needed six match points before seeing off Goffin 6-3, 7-6 (9) in less than two hours.

With Thursday's victory, Cilic joined field for the ATP year-end championships alongside with Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic and Gael Monfils.

"That was the goal of the season for me, to reach the Tour finals in London," said the Croatian after the last 16 win.

"Obviously top 8 in the world, that's something all the players in the world are wishing for. It's one of the best tournaments in the world, for sure, to battle it out with best ones in the world in that kind of a format.

"It's definitely something special, so it's great for me that I achieved it, especially in this kind of way in these last few weeks. I earned it, and that's, for me, even bigger plus," he said.

The 2014 U.S. Open champion will be making his second appearance at the showpiece after having gone 0-3 in group play in his 2015 debut.

Cilic qualified leaving only one spot open up to grab for Austrian Dominic Thiem, Czech Tomas Berdych and Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to battle against each others. Enditem
