BEIRUT, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Brazil will offer Lebanon further military aid in order to fortify ties between the two countries, visiting Brazilian Defense Minister Raul Jungmann was quoted Wednesday by the National News Agency (NNA).
Super Tucanos aircrafts and 16 armored vehicles will arrive in Lebanon in 2017, the Brazilian minister said after meeting with his caretaker Lebanese counterpart Samir Moqbel.
"Lebanon and Brazil enjoy a friendly relation for a long time as we have more than 10 million Brazilians of Lebanese origin who are contributing in the development of the country," Jungmann said. "This fact cannot be neglected particularly that our current president is of Lebanese origin."
A statement issued by Moqbel's press office said the meeting focused on the current political affairs and bilateral ties, in particular the military field.
Moqbel told reporters that he briefed the Brazilian minister during the meeting on the challenges that Lebanon is facing, including terrorism and the Syrian refugees crisis.
He thanked Brazil for its participation in the UNIFIL Maritime Force according to the resolution 1701. Enditem
