Vietnam announces seafood reserves

HANOI, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam has detected 1,081 kinds of seafood, including 881 fish species and 115 crustacean species, in the country's waters, the agriculture ministry said on Thursday.

This is the first time the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced such figures. It has surveyed seafood resources and outlined orientations for seafood catch and aquaculture.

According to the ministry, reserves of fish, lobsters, prawns, crabs, squids, and octopuses are estimated at 4.1-4.6 million tons.

Vietnam exported seafood worth 783 million U.S. dollars in the first nine months of this year, down 5.7 percent on-year, said the country's General Statistics Office.
