Tokyo stocks open lower as corporate earnings mulled, profits locked in

TOKYO, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks edged lower from the opening bell Thursday on investor equivocation as earnings season kicks off here, with some opting to secure gains ahead of assuming firmer positions following a recent uptick in stocks.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 26.26 points, or 0.15 percent, from Wednesday to 17,365.58.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged down 0.28 point, or 0.02 percent, to 1,382.42.

Notable issues that retreated early on comprised miscellaneous product, marine transportation and pharmaceutical-linked stocks.
