One killed, others injured following explosions in Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo

TOKYO, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- One person was found dead in Utsunomiya in Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo, as a result of two explosion that occurred on Sunday, local police officials said.

In Utsunomiya, the capital of Tochigi Prefecture, police officials said that at least three people were injured in a park when an explosion went off during a festival, and one was found to be without vital signs when rescue officials arrived.

Cars were also reportedly on fire in a car park just before noon local time, although the cause of the fires has yet to be determined, local police said.

Following the two explosions, eye witnesses reported smelling what they described as gunpowder, according to Japan's public broadcaster NHK.
