17 courts in Ghana selected to handle electoral disputes

ACCRA, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood has selected 17 courts to handle electoral disputes that may arise from the Dec. 7 polls, local media reported Tuesday.

The breakdown of the courts are Greater Accra, six; Ashanti and Western Regions, two each; Eastern, Central, Upper West, Upper East, Northern, Volta and Brong Ahafo, one each.

Meanwhile, Electoral Commission (EC) said some subscribers of presidential aspirants failed to meet some requirements.

Last week, the Chairperson of the EC, Charlotte Osei, disqualified 13 presidential candidates on the grounds of forgery, perjury, impersonation and deceit of public officer.

Osei said the issue would be referred to the Ghana Police Service and the Attorney General for investigations and prosecution. Enditem
