TOKYO, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended Friday morning mixed as some investors hit the sidelines ahead of a speech by U.S. Federal Reserve chairwoman Janet Yellen and the release of key U.S. retail sales data due out later in the day.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 10.96 points, or 0.07 percent, from Thursday to 16,785.20.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, however, lost 1.57 points, or 0.12 percent, to 1,340.74.
Notable issues that advanced comprised mining and information stocks. Those that lost ground were led by textile and pharmaceutical-linked stocks.
