MALINDI, Kenya, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's anti-terrorism police on Friday arrested a doctor in the coastal town of Malindi over alleged links to the Islamic State (IS) militant group.
Detectives raided the doctor's house and confiscated "terrorism documents" associated with the IS following an intelligence report, according to John Ndungu, a security official in Malindi.
Police say they obtained phone call data linking the doctor to the IS.
"We suspect he is part of IS cell in the country targeting mainly medical students (for recruitment)," Ndungu said.
The doctor escaped an earlier operation in which two other IS suspects were arrested in August in Malindi, according to the police.
The two medical interns in a local hospital were believed to be behind the radicalization of a batch of university students who were lured to join the IS.
Kenya has tightened security in the wake of several deadly attacks by Somalia-based Islamist group Al-Shabaab in recent years. And now it is also battling IS recruitment of youths. Enditem
