PHNOM PENH, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia exported 361,505 tons of milled rice in the first nine months of 2016, down 2.1 percent over the same period last year, according to the latest report released Wednesday.

However, in Sept. alone, the Southeast Asian country exported 41,429 tons of milled rice, a 53 percent rise over the same month last year, said the report compiled by the Secretariat of One Window Service for Rice Export.

Cambodian rice has been sold to 62 countries and regions around the world, said the report. Three top buyers are China, France and Poland.

Cambodia is facing rice crisis as prices of paddy rice have dropped to around 193 U.S. dollars per ton from around 250 U.S. dollars in mid-August. The government has said that the steep decline in rice prices has badly affected farmers.

In an attempt to stabilize rice prices, Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen approved last month a 27-million-U.S.-dollar special loan package to lend to millers so that they can buy paddy rice from farmers at reasonable prices, about 235 U.S. dollars per ton. Enditem
