YANGON, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- The parliament of Myanmar approved on Friday a bill to repeal the 66- year old Emergency Provisions Act, official media reported Saturday.
The Emergency Provisions Act had been enacted since 1950 when the country's domestic conflict emerged along with the country's independence.
Although it was applied for military purposes, it was used for political purposes later. Moreover, it contravened the constitutional rights of a citizen, according to a member of the lower house bill committee.
The committee submitted the bill repealing the act to the parliament in August.
