S. African stocks close lower on Tuesday

JOHANNESBURG, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Shares on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) traded weaker on Tuesday with the all-share index 1.23 percent in the red at 51,335.75 points, and the Top 40-index down 1.39 percent at 44,864.62 points.

A U.S. dollar cost R13.86, a British pound cost R17.96, and a euro cost R15.49 at 5.30 p.m..

The Industrial index, which includes most of the big dual-listed shares which earn most of their income in foreign currencies, was 1.45 percent down. Enditem
