Changchun steps away from relegation by beating Guangzhou R&F 3-1

CHANGCHUN, China, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Changchun Yatai defeated Guangzhou R&F 3-1 here on Friday night, stepping away from relegation threat in the Chinese Super League (CSL) with six games remaining.

With the victory, the 2007 CSL champion is three points behind Hangzhou Greentown who sits in the third place from the bottom of the table.

An own goal from Tang Miao broke the deadlock in the fifth minute, after a corner kick from Zhang Xiaofei. After the half break, Eran Zehavi beat the home defenders and helped Ribeiro Calixto to equalize the scoreboard through a close range shot.

Changchun took the lead again in the 53rd minute, when Fan Xiaodong hit the back of an empty net off a cross from Pei Shuai.

From then on, the home squad attained more importance to defense, leaving forward Marcelo Moreno alone in attack who ensured the win by scoring from a counter attack in the 90th minute.

"It's a very tough game, and I will thank my players for fighting from the start till the end," said Lee Jang-Soo, head coach of Changchun Yatai.

In the other game of the day, Shanghai Greenland was held to a 2-2 draw by Chongqing Lifan on home soil, as the visitors rallied back from two goals down in the first half through Wang Dong and Fernandinho in the 53rd and 79th minutes. Enditem
