Five Irish men charged over home thefts in Australia

SYDNEY, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Five Irishmen have been charged with more than 70,000 Australian dollars (52,630 U.S. dollars) worth of alleged stolen property recovered after a spate of break-ins in Sydney, Australia.

NSW police said in a statement that the five Irish nationals were arrested in an apartment block in Pennant Hills on Tuesday, following numerous reports of aggravated break, enter and steal offences within The Hills, Kuring Gai and Ryde regions over the past few weeks.

Items including luxury-brand watches, designer jewellery, as well as vehicles and balaclavas allegedly used by the men have also been recovered, police said.

All five men, aged between 19 and 22 were refused bail and will appear in Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday.
