KATHMANDU, Aug. 24 (Xinhua)-- Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the aviation sector regulator of Nepal, said it is going to criminalize the use of laser light directed to flying aircraft.
On August 19, the cockpit of the Airbus-320 operated by Nepal's national flag carrier - Nepal Airline Corporation (NAC) was targeted by laser light when it was landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu.
Currently, there is no specific legal provision that criminalizes such use of laser light although that can be defined as an act against air safety, according to CAAN.
"Considering that the use of laser directed at cockpit could invite air accidents affecting the vision of pilots, we are going to criminalize such act through amendment to our existing legal provisions," said Sanjiv Gautam, director general of CAAN.
