VIENTIANE, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Three people were killed and more injured in a bus accident on Tuesday morning in the province of Champassak in southern Laos, provincial police confirmed.
A driver and 23 passengers were on board when the bus bound for the provincial capital of Pakse and onward for the neighbouring province of Xekong veered off the road while traveling in the Champassak's Xanasomboun district, some 470 km southeast of Lao capital Vientiane by aerial distance.
Champassak Provincial Police have named the deceased as Lao nationals, two from Champassak and another from Vientiane, as they continue investigations into the accident which occurred on National Road 13, Laos' main north--south highway linking the nation's capital with southern provinces.
Pictures and video footage posted to social media show the bus with extensive damage having come to rest on its roof across a ditch on the road shoulder.
