TOKYO, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares closed almost flat Monday morning, with market sentiment mixed on the strong yen and expectations that the Bank of Japan will purchase exchange-traded funds.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 0.79 points, or 0.00 percent, from Friday to 16,920.71.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 2.30 points, or 0.17 percent, to 1,320.92.
Gainers were led by information and communication, and rubber product issues while decliners were led by pulp and paper, and iron and steel issues.
