NEW DELHI, July 28 (Xinhua) -- India's Nehru-Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi took a dig at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday over price rise and made a scathing attack on him over the issue.
"Modi has forgotten the promise he made to the people of India. The poor don't get food to eat, they drink their tears and go to sleep," Gandhi said during a debate on price rise in the Parliament.
"You talk about Start Up India, Make In India, but not about price rise. I want to remind the Prime Minister about the promise he made to every Indian, that the Bharatiya Janata Party will control price rise after coming to power," he said.
Gandhi, who is also the second-in-command of the country's main opposition Congress party, also urged the premier to do his best to control price rise, questioning, "Why did Modi not say anything on price rise while celebrating two years of the government?"
Price rise is a burning issue in India at present. The Indian government claims to be taking steps to contain inflation, one of the causes that cost the Congress the general elections in 2014.
