MEXICO CITY, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Mexico will invite bids for 15 shallow-water oil exploration blocs with a total area of 9,000 square km in the Gulf of Mexico, the authorities said Tuesday.
The bids will open on March 22, 2017, said the National Hydrocarbons Commission, which is charged with overseeing large parts of the country's energy reform.
Energy Minister Pedro Joaquin Coldwell said that interest will be high among international oil companies. He expected an average investment of around 750 million U.S. dollars per bloc.
In order to enter this tendering round, a company has to have a minimum capital of 600 million dollars on its own and is able to count on partners to make up the rest of the required 1 billion dollars.
