HO CHI MINH CITY, July 19 (Xinhua) -- A former chairman of management board of the Vietnam Construction Bank and other 35 defendants appeared at a court here Tuesday for having caused the biggest-ever loss of 9,000 billion Vietnamese dong (over 400 million U.S. dollars).
Pham Cong Danh, 51, the bank's former chairman cum general director of Thien Thanh Company, was charged with intentionally running counter to the State's economic management regulations, resulting in serious consequences, and violating regulations on lending in operations of credit institutions.
Also appearing at the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court as defendants are other senior officials of the bank or its branch in Ho Chi Minh City, and junior officials and staff of the bank's partners and of Thien Thanh Company.
The trial is expected to last for one month.
