WELLINGTON, July 18 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand's services sector continued a steady rate of expansion last month, according to the latest performance of services index (PSI) out Monday.
The BNZ - Business New Zealand PSI for June was 56.7, on a scale where above 50 indicates expansion and below 50 contraction.
The reading was very close to the level of activity seen in May, when it was 56.9, and above the average of 56.4 for the first six months of the year.
Business New Zealand chief executive Kirk Hope said the result for June continued the trend of healthy expansion.
"Looking at comments, those who stated their main influences on activity were positive typically mentioned either steady sales or business as usual," Hope said in a statement.
"Those stating negative influences instead focused on either seasonal patterns or issues relating to shortages of skilled staff."
The GDP-weighted performance of composite index, which combines the performance of manufacturing index and the PSI, for June 56.9, unchanged from May.
